Robert was born in Fairfax, Virgina and raised in the Rockville and Gaithersburg areas of Montgomery County, MD., which is a suburb of Washington, DC. He came to us with beautiful bright eyes, a head full of shiny dark hair and an angelic smile, on October 20, 1980. He was raised by his father, Steve Bautista and mother, Silvia Benevidas. He attended Ashburton Elementary, Twinbrook Elementary, Julius West Middle School and Magruder High School. The Montgomery County School system tested Robert and he was recognized as a "Gifted and Talented" student which made him eligible for special schools. But he wanted to "chill" with his "homies" at the schools that he was already attending. He had teachers take special interest in him and included him in the MCPS student mentoring program. He was a football player on the Junior Football team "The Vikings". His Dad still has his team jersey. | Robert has made hundreds of friends in Maryland and California, he had a special insight into the lives and feelings of people, was extremely gifted in Religous and Spiritual teachings. Ironically Robert was lately very curious about our Christian and other religous teachings.
After High School, Robert moved to Huntington Beach, California which is closer to his Mom. He was in his third year of school at Orange Coast College. His major was in Business Administration and he also studied philosophy, religion and music. He shared an apartment with his only brother, Michael.
Robert was very well known and liked and apparently admired by some in the Disc Jockey and "Jungle Music" community. He used to spin records on the boardwalk at Venice Beach, CA and other places in front of spinning and dancing fans and had a great time doing it. Robert was also into entertaining his Dad and the grown ups starting at about the age of 4 with his "Break Dancing" and "Moonwalking".
Robert was always known for his courage and had a habit of taking up for other people that were being picked on by bullies, or people that were out numbered by others. His Dad remembers his son at the age of 7 defending another child from a 12 year old bully. Of course Robert won the fight. Although his Dad taught him to defend himself he was also taught to never start a fight or hurt anyone if it could be avoided.
Robert had a great sense of humour, loyalty and good moral convictions. It was hard to find any fault with him and although no one is perfect, as far as I am concerned Robert is a perfect son and a loyal friend.
Roberts life was taken away from us on October 13, 2002 at about 2:15 AM. After a great night of "busting sets" (doing DJ work) and hanging out with his friends at a club. Things are still somewhat unclear about what happened. Apparently there was an unproked attack on Robert outside of a nightclub in Los Angeles which resulted in his murder. Robert was taught to believe in himself, to stand true to his beliefs, to love unconditionally, and to be couragous and brave. He was all of this and so much more. He had many dreams and aspirations that he was in the process of making come true. His biggest was to be a DJ and always said, "I'm gonna spin till I die." He brought a lot to everyone that knew him. In our hearts and minds we are left with the knowledge that he will fulfill all of his dreams safely with our Lord. We will always miss and love you,our "Little Robert". You will remain in our hearts until we meet again. Robert is survived by his Father, Steve; Mother, Silvia; Brother, Michael, 2 great-grandfathers, 6 grandparents, 13 aunts, 16 uncles and 36 cousins.

There will be moments of silence on Robert's 22nd birthday, and 1 week after his sensless murder on October 20th at 2:00 AM and 2:45 AM(PST)and 5:00AM and 5:45 AM(EST).
